National Writing Day: Unleash Your Superhero!
Hello fellow wordsmiths and creative enthusiasts! Today we have a special reason to celebrate because it’s National Writing Day 2023.
On this very unique day, we invite each and every one of you to take part in the celebration. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or a novice dipping your toes into the sea of storytelling, we encourage you to take some time today to engage with your imagination and explore the stories within you, whether it is for five minutes or an hour.
This term, inspired by their visit in the Shoreditch Autograph Gallery, our young writers from our Community Writing Labs have been working on the theme of unsung hereos; individuals who did great things, and yet have not been praised enough; ideas that have changed the world, and yet have been taken for granted, people who did little things with great love, and yet we don’t thank enough.
The young writers explored, week after week, what being a hero means to them, who their heroes are, what they do, and they realised that they could be superheroes too!
Now it’s your turn, so grab your pen, dust off your keyboard, don your cape, and be ready to flex your creative muscles.
Here there are a few ideas to get you started:
- Who or what would you like to write about? Is that yourself, a family member, a friend, your pet, an object, a place, an idea…?
- What are your superhero’s superpowers?
- What would weaken them?
I am not a superhero but I am.
I am _______
and I am ______.
When I have time
I fight the crime _________ in the _________.
Sometimes I am a/an ________ .
Sometimes I feel _______ .
But I am never _________,
am I?
Sometimes they tell me I am not a superhero
because I am scared of _______.
But with _______, I get
__________.
And when they will ask me “___________?”
I will shout _________
(repeat a line or a word).
If you think you cannot find the right word, feel free to make one up! Today you can create your super-heroic vocabulary!
Once you’ve freed your creativity, don’t keep it for yourself! Share your writing with others and inspire your fellow superheroes! You can upload your piece on social media using the hashtag #NationalWritingDay and tagging @writeday @Mini_Stories on Twitter, or send it to us at hello@ministryofstories.org
Remember that your story matters, and today it’s the perfect time for your imagination to soar to new heights! Happy National Writing Day!
